Biography
Paul was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1971. His practice area has been primarily civil litigation, including construction, employment/dismissal law, professional negligence, product liability, mediations and arbitrations, and advising professional associations and colleges with respect to conduct and discipline proceedings.
He has participated as a member of several committees of the Law Society of Alberta including insurance, conduct, practice review and others, and served as a Bencher of the Law Society from 1998 to 2004.
Paul has appeared before all levels of courts in Alberta, Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada.
He taught advocacy at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Law from 1993 to 2004. He has made presentations to professional associations on legal aspects of practice, professional liability, and loss prevention, which associations include the Alberta Institute of Chartered Accountants, Canadian Institute of Insured Chartered Accountants, The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), Consulting Engineers of Alberta, Alberta Land Surveyors’ Association, British Columbia Land Surveyors’ Association, and others. He has also made presentations to Canadian Bar Association subsections on various topics including arbitrations and mediations.
The Martindale Hubbell ratings, which reflect legal ability and ethical standards, list Paul as having an AV Pre-eminent rating.
